Carpe Diem

from Shadow Syndicate

Cultures collide in this visceral production exploring how identities are formed, challenged and resisted. Apt and poignant, this modern allegory invites audiences to seize the day in a polarised world, recognising that more binds us than divides us. Multi-award-winning company with a 'strong reputation for hard-hitting contemporary drama' Buxton Fringe Review

Powerful, provocative and prodigious, Carpe Diem is a piece of political theatre born from the wounds of an increasingly fractured society and set in a Dystopian world, that explores the diminiishing of civil liberties and the challenges of resistance to such forces. A pair of freedom fighters, cornered in the bowels of the Ministry of Misinformation, form an immediate narrative that crosses time, countries and cultures in a bid to arrest the growing discontent that looms over them.  Notions of identity formation, eradication and resistance are explored in a raw and uncompromising manner, revealing a truism that unites us all, which often lays hidden behind the cloak of misinformation.

There is a palpable sense of urgency to the production, which attempts to demystify the truth of what identity is, exposing those who choose to skew and sully others’, in the name of self ascension. Truths that surpass stereotypes are presented in a gritty reality that can be uncomfortable to confront and watch, but are exposed unashamedly in this production.  Honest, apt and poignant, Carpe Diem gives voice to those who would normally be silenced and implores those who have one already, to seize the day.
